DNS
The Domain Name System is a distributed directory that maps domain names to website, email and other service destinations.
Example
An A or CNAME record can direct a web hostname, while MX and TXT records help configure business email.
Why it matters
A careless DNS or nameserver change can interrupt websites, email or certificate validation even when the application itself is healthy.
