Website Redesign Checklist
Protect useful content, search equity and working journeys while improving an established website.
For: Businesses preparing a redesign, replatform or substantial content restructure.
Section 01
Before design
- Inventory current URLs, content, forms, integrations and analytics events.
- Identify real customer and operational problems rather than copying visual trends.
- Record useful search visibility, backlinks and high-value landing pages.
- Agree what must be retained, rewritten, consolidated or removed.
Section 02
During the project
- Map old URLs to the new information architecture.
- Prototype important mobile and keyboard journeys.
- Test content, forms, permissions and third-party handoffs.
- Keep the staging environment private and excluded from indexing.
Section 03
Launch and follow-up
- Implement direct permanent redirects for replaced public URLs.
- Update canonicals, sitemaps, internal links and search-console settings.
- Compare post-launch errors and customer actions against the recorded baseline.
- Keep a rollback and incident route during the stabilisation period.
